A tavern in Limassol was bombed in the early hours of Monday. The owners claim to have no disputes with anyone and are cooperating with the police investigation. Evidence has been collected from the crime scene and surveillance footage is being sought. This is the second time the tavern has been targeted in two years. The explosion caused minor damage with a low-power incendiary device placed at the entrance.

Four arrested in connection with recent car thefts

The Police arrested a 16-year-old individual in connection to ongoing car theft investigations in the Famagusta district, bringing the total number of apprehensions to four. The arrest was made to aid in the investigations, which revealed the involvement of several individuals in car theft cases in Ayia Napa between May 25th and May 30th, 2024. Another case involving the 16-year-old and an 18-year-old in Larnaca is also under investigation. Arrest warrants were issued against the 18-year-old and the 16-year-old following evidence collected by the Larnaca Police Department. The suspects appeared before the Famagusta District Court and were ordered to be detained for four days. The investigations by the Ayia Napa Police Station and the Larnaca Police Department are ongoing.

Attack averted on French Olympic soccer match in St Etienne, authorities say

An 18-year-old Chechen man was arrested in Saint-Etienne, France, suspected of planning an attack at the city’s soccer stadium during the upcoming Olympics. The suspect is accused of associating with terrorists and is currently in detention. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin stated that the suspect wanted to target spectators and security forces and die as a martyr. The man had planned to attack fans outside the stadium due to tight security inside. The suspect’s under-aged brother was also initially arrested but later released.
