More than 500 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli security forces and Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank since last year’s Israel-Hamas conflict. The United Nations human rights office condemned Israel’s use of force in the territory and the denial of medical aid. Israeli forces have cracked down in the West Bank, making thousands of arrests to prevent escalating violence. UN human rights monitors found violations of international law in the use of force by Israeli security forces, with some Palestinians killed not posing an imminent threat.
The Police arrested a 16-year-old individual in connection to ongoing car theft investigations in the Famagusta district, bringing the total number of apprehensions to four. The arrest was made to aid in the investigations, which revealed the involvement of several individuals in car theft cases in Ayia Napa between May 25th and May 30th, 2024. Another case involving the 16-year-old and an 18-year-old in Larnaca is also under investigation. Arrest warrants were issued against the 18-year-old and the 16-year-old following evidence collected by the Larnaca Police Department. The suspects appeared before the Famagusta District Court and were ordered to be detained for four days. The investigations by the Ayia Napa Police Station and the Larnaca Police Department are ongoing.
Egypt has detained students promoting pro-Palestinian boycotts and solidarity campaigns, along with many others protesting against Israel’s military campaign. At least 125 people have been arrested since the Gaza war began in October, with 95 still in pre-trial detention. The crackdown on dissent in Egypt has intensified since 2013, with tens of thousands arrested for speaking out against the government. Public demonstrations are outlawed, and authorities fear protests over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict could fuel political dissent.
Police cracked down on thefts and vandalism in Limassol and Famagusta districts. In Limassol, a 34-year-old man was arrested for handling stolen goods after being found with items stolen from two vehicles. In Famagusta, two teenagers and a 25-year-old man were arrested for possession of burglary tools and linked to a series of thefts from vehicles in Ayia Napa. Another 17-year-old is awaiting a court hearing for theft from a parked car in the same area.

The ‘government’ in the north of Cyprus is determined to import meat from abroad, with the first shipment arriving from the Netherlands. The government also plans to import meat from Spain, and opposition party CTP ‘MP’ Teberruken Ulucay questioned why meat could not be imported from the Republic of Cyprus where European Union standards are enforced.

Four people were arrested on suspicion of stealing from cars in two separate instances. In Limassol, a 64-year-old man reported his van stolen, which was later found with the items inside stolen. Two suspects, aged 31 and 28, were arrested. In Larnaca, €840 was stolen from an unlocked car, leading to the arrest of a 19-year-old and a 17-year-old minor.
