Cyprus Film Days 2024 partners with Queer Wave for a special screening of The Blue Caftan

The film “The Blue Caftan” by Moroccan director Maryam Touzani will be screened at ARTos House in Nicosia on Sunday, 7 April 2024 at 7 pm. The film tells the story of Halim and Mina who run a caftan store in Morocco’s oldest medina. The screening marks the first collaboration between Cyprus Film Days and Queer Wave, with free admission. The film won the FIPRESCI Award for Best Film at Cannes in 2022 and was Morocco’s official entry for the Oscars.

The well-known Cypriot painter Andreas Charalambous will exhibit his work “The Symposium in Pandemic Times” along with related studies at Gallery Chora in Nicosia from 15th to 30th April 2024. The artwork was painted during the quarantine and restrictive measures of the Covid-19 pandemic, inspired by Pushkin’s “Little Tragedy” from the 19th century. The exhibition will be opened by Stefanos Stefanou, the General Secretary of AKEL, and discussed by historian and art critic Dr. Eleni Nikita.

– “Africa Star” by Adonis Florides will have its world premiere at the 28th Sofia International Film Festival on March 18th.
– Constantinos Patsalides’ short film “Milk-Rose” was selected for competition at the 21st Annual Greek Film Festival in San Francisco.
– The mentioned film productions were co-financed by the Department of Contemporary Culture of the Deputy Ministry of Culture through its special cinema programmes.
