Suspect for Menidi woman’s murder led before examining magistrate

A 50-year-old Albanian man charged with the murder of his 40-year-old estranged wife, who was found stabbed to death in the west Athens suburb of Menidi, was led before an examining magistrate on Friday. The 50-year-old, who according to sources confessed to stabbing the victim was given until Monday to prepare his testimony.
A public prosecutor had earlier charged him with murder in a calm frame of mind, illegally bearing weapons and illegal weapons use.
The suspect was due to be tried on Friday before an court for perpetrators caught in flagrante, on charges of domestic violence filed by the victim on May 7. The trial had been postponed at that time, however, while the court had ordered the defendant’s release as the domestic abuse trial had been postponed for more than three days – a decision that is now viewed as a mistake, given that the suspect was a repeat offender. His defence on Friday asked for a second postponement, with a new date set on March 18, 2025.
The victim had twice previously reported the suspect for domestic violence to the police, once in 2013 and then again in 2022.
