Major Police operation to check foreigners in Paphos

A coordinated police operation took place in the Paphos district this morning to prevent and detect crime and check the legal status of foreigners residing in Cyprus. The operation focused on two apartment complexes in Chloraka and Tremithousa, where a total of 300 apartments were checked. No individuals were found residing in the apartments at the “Agios Nikolaos” complex, and no objectionable items were discovered in the 12 apartments searched at the “Agios Georgios” complex. Police plan to conduct similar searches in the future.

Paphos police arrest two for illegal stay and work

Police in Paphos made two arrests on Wednesday for cases involving illegal employment and residence in the Republic. The first arrest was of a 22-year-old Pakistani man who had been residing illegally in Cyprus since March 24, 2023. The second arrest was of a 44-year-old woman of African origin who was working illegally in a bakery in Paphos and had been residing illegally in the country since November 15, 2022.

A 33-year-old man was arrested in Geroskipou, Cyprus, for illegal stay, working without a permit, and possession of a fake identity card. He was found working without an employment permit at a property, and his residence permit had expired since February. The man attempted to secure work using a fake Greek identity card, which he also used for social security registration, without the employer’s knowledge.

Five people were arrested in Paphos, suspected of illegal stay, during a coordinated operation in Tremithousa at the Saint George complex. The operation involved around 80 police officers from Paphos CID, Ykan drug squad members, and MMAD special forces, investigating 18 apartments and 80 individuals. Four men and one woman were found residing illegally and were arrested with plans for their deportation.
