The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 will take place in Sweden, specifically in Malmö, with 37 participating countries. Thkio Ppalies will host the presentation of the works of the resident artists of Radical Afterlives: The Cyprus Movements Archive Project, Belinda Papavasiliou, Emily Demetriou and x.ypno. Her previous projects have dealt with issues such as the enclaved Cypriots and missing persons. The exhibition will run from April 26 to July 31, 2024, at the Larnaka Municipal Art Gallery.
Cyprus will host its first parkour competition, “Renegade in Action,” on May 19, 2024, at Eleftheria Square in Nicosia. The event aims to showcase local parkour enthusiasts’ skills and passion for the sport, with support from Red Point. The competition will include speed runs and style showcases, bringing participants from across Cyprus together to celebrate their love for parkour. Additionally, Renegade in Action seeks to promote community engagement, support charitable initiatives, and encourage physical activity among youth.
A cultural hub called the Lemba Culture Village has been established in the village of Lemba, Paphos. It was conceived by the late Cypriot artist Stass Paraskos and aims to cultivate a vibrant hub for artistic creation and education. The project started in 2007 and was championed by then-Education Minister Akis Kleanthous. The winning design for the village was selected through an architectural competition in 2016, and it focuses on fostering a genuine “village” atmosphere to encourage interaction between Cypriot students, international artists, and the local community.
