Festivals underline importance of nature
A flower festival was opened by Agriculture Minister Maria Panayiotou in Yermasoyia, emphasizing the importance of nature and promoting environmental culture for its protection.
The charity concert “A Night in Havana – Jazz Fusion” will take place on June 13 at Skali Aglantzias in collaboration with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. Renowned Cuban pianist Rolando Luna and Cuban, Cyprus-based singer Marjorie Montero will be performing. Luna specially arranged the repertoire for the Symphony Orchestra to perform under the direction of conductor Giorgos Kountouris. All proceeds from the concert will go towards Telethon’s charitable efforts.

A bright comet fragment lit up the skies over parts of Spain and Portugal, with the European Space Agency confirming it was a small piece of a comet flying over the countries at a speed of 45 km per second before burning up over the Atlantic. The likelihood of finding any meteorites from the event is very low. Videos of the bright object streaking across the sky went viral on social media, with reports of the event prompting calls to emergency services in both countries. Lisbon resident Bernardo Taborda described the dazzling display as feeling like a movie and amazing.
The Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) announced the launch of the “EIG CONCERT-Japan” initiative with a budget of €400,000. This program aims to foster scientific collaboration between Japan and Cyprus in the thematic areas of digital transformation and robotics in sustainable agriculture. The maximum funding allocated per project for the Cyprus consortium is €100,000, and proposals can be submitted via the IRIS portal of the Foundation by July 29, 2024.

Pink Floyd’s drummer Nick Mason expressed his openness to a reunion gig with the band, but believes his feuding bandmates Roger Waters and David Gilmour do not share the same sentiment. The band last performed together in 2005 at a charity concert. Keyboardist Richard Wright and original frontman Syd Barrett have passed away. Mason has not discussed the possibility of a reunion with Waters or Gilmour. The feud between Waters and Gilmour has intensified over the years. Mason hinted at the possibility of doing shows with his own ensemble, similar to a surprise appearance by Waters in 2022. Mason believes there is not much interest in a Pink Floyd reunion.
