A 28-year-old man was killed in a crash on a road in Pervolia, Larnaca. The man was on his motorbike when a 34-year-old truck driver crashed into him while turning right. The truck driver tested negative for alcohol and drugs. An arrest warrant was requested for the truck driver by Larnaca police.
A 26-year-old man was arrested by the Police in Limassol to assist in an ongoing investigation of serious bodily harm inflicted in February. The man was driving a vehicle with a 32-year-old co-driver when they were stopped by the police after a pursuit. The driver was found with heroin in his possession and was arrested for drug possession, while the co-driver was arrested for unlawful presence in Cyprus. Further investigations revealed a pending warrant for the driver’s arrest related to the February 2024 case of bodily harm. The Limassol CID is handling the investigation.
Catalans are voting in a regional election between an exiled separatist politician, Carles Puigdemont, and the Socialist Party led by Salvador Illa. Puigdemont, who fled Spain after a failed independence bid in 2017, is vowing to resurrect the bid if elected. Opinion polls predict a lead for the Socialists, with the possibility of forming a coalition government due to the likelihood of no party reaching a majority.
