Exhumation in progress to locate the remains of the poet Vasilis Michaelides

The exhumation of bones believed to belong to the national poet of Cyprus, Vasilis Michaelides, is currently taking place at the cemetery of Agios Nikolaos in Limassol. The exhumation is being carried out by anthropologists in the presence of various officials and relatives of Vasilis Michaelides. The exhumation was initiated after testimonies were secured that the poet was buried in the grave. The decree issued by the Court states that only the first identified bones will be exhumed and samples will be taken to determine the age of the individual. If two human skeletons are found, the process will be stopped. Vasilis Michaelides died in December 1917 and his grave disappeared in the following decade.
