This year’s European elections are being promoted differently from previous ones, with a notable presence of influencers in the European Parliament’s corridors in Brussels and Strasbourg. Social media plays a crucial role in the election campaign, particularly in the ‘Use your vote’ campaign, which was launched across 27 Member States in at least 24 languages at a cost of €37 million. The campaign aims to engage young people and inform them about the European Parliament, utilizing influencers who have a young audience. The European Parliament’s communication strategy includes working with content creators to reach various audiences, especially young people, who are less likely to follow political developments closely or participate in elections. The Parliament organizes seminars for influencers, providing personalized information and ensuring they align with EU values and are genuinely interested in the topics. Influencers are not paid by the Parliament for their content but are encouraged to share their experiences.
