Health minister announces funding plan for hospital upgrades

The disbursement of state grants to hospitals in Cyprus, both public and private, will begin in June for those undergoing or starting the accreditation process. The Government has approved a Grant Provision Plan for Private and Public Hospitals focused on Accreditation, aiming to improve health services through the implementation of standards. The plan, costing €2.5 million and covered by the Recovery and Resilience Plan, will benefit 51 hospitals, with grants distribution starting in June. Accreditation is also a key quality criterion for determining compensation in the General Health System.

SMS notifications for 500K GHS beneficiaries lacking access

The Health Insurance Organization (HIO) will implement a new regulation before Easter to inform beneficiaries of the General Health System (GHS) via text messages on their mobile phones about healthcare provider entries made in their name. The organisation’s priority is to link beneficiaries with their electronic profiles in the system’s software. Almost 260,000 adult beneficiaries have activated their profiles since the start of the GHS in 2019, with approximately 100,000 other beneficiaries connected through them. The HIO urges citizens to update their data as many mobile phones and email addresses registered under beneficiaries’ names are incorrect or belong to someone else. Beneficiaries must activate their profile in the GHS software to receive text messages, and the elderly or individuals without internet access can activate this setting through their personal doctor. Email notifications will continue alongside text messages.
