MEPs complain can, ’t be in two places at once
Cypriot MEP candidates will officially submit their candidacies on Wednesday. The interior ministry was criticized for scheduling the submissions on the same day as the last session of the EU parliament. The far-right gaining ground in the EU parliament is a growing concern. The session will also celebrate the 20 years since Cyprus and other countries were greenlighted to enter the EU in 2004.
Deputy migration minister to be appointed , ‘immediately’
A deputy minister for migration will be appointed immediately by President Nikos Christodoulides. During the latest EU Council session, Christodoulides requested a discussion to redesignate parts of Syria as safe. All new arrivals from Syria will have their asylum applications suspended and will be taken to camps without the ability to work.
Hungarian minister for EU affairs visiting Cyprus
Janos Boka, Hungary’s Minister for European Union Affairs, is visiting Cyprus by invitation of Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna.
Christodoulides in Brussels for EU Council
President Nikos Christodoulides of Cyprus will visit Belgium to attend the College of Europe in Bruges, participate in the European Council summit in Brussels, and engage in both public and private meetings with officials. He will also attend a working lunch with the UN Secretary General and other EU member state leaders, focusing on the Middle East and Ukraine. Additionally, Christodoulides will visit the College of Europe following an invitation from the Society of Cypriot Students and will meet with Federica Mogherini, the college’s rector and former Vice President of the European Commission. He will also meet with Margaritis Schinas, the Vice President of the European Commission, before attending activities of the European People’s Party and a commemorative event for the 30th anniversary of the European Economic Area. Christodoulides will return to Cyprus on Friday evening.
