Cyprus shipping registry commemorated in Athens

The Cyprus Registry celebrated its 60th anniversary of participation in global shipping activities, emphasizing its strategy focused on responsible and sustainable growth. The event, held at the Great Britain Hotel in Athens, Greece, highlighted the strong ties between Greek and Cypriot maritime sectors. Ioannis Koustas has registered seven freight vessels under the Cypriot flag, and George Prokopiou, who was awarded the Cyprus Maritime Award, has a fleet that makes up 3.5% of the Cypriot registry with an average age of five years, including advanced ice-class LNG carriers. Deputy Minister of Shipping, Marina Hadjimanoli, highlighted the registry’s commitment to improving services, sustainability, and the introduction of green incentives for ships to lower greenhouse gas emissions, with substantial tonnage tax reductions starting January 2024.
