Over 14% of children are victims of cyber bullying

– Just over 14 per cent of children in Cyprus have fallen victim to cyberbullying at least once or twice in the last few months.
– 9.5 per cent of children had bullied another child online in the past few months at least once or twice.
– 14.4 per cent of children reported being bullied in the same timeframe and frequency.
– 4.3 per cent of students had bullied children at school at least two to three times in the past few months.
– 7.8 per cent of students were bullied at least two to three times a month in the last months.
– 10.6 per cent of children were involved in fights at least three times in the past year.
– The increase in cyberbullying is alarming, particularly in the past few years among certain groups of children.

Students in Cyprus face cyberbullying and school bullying, study finds

The World Health Organisation’s HBSC study in Cyprus by the Ministry of Education focused on cyberbullying and traditional bullying among Cypriot students. The survey included responses from 4,818 students aged 11, 13, and 15. The study found that boys in Cyprus reported higher rates of bullying at school than girls, while no significant gender differences were found in rates of being bullied. Additionally, 15-year-olds and children from low socio-economic backgrounds in Cyprus were more prone to cyberbullying, with no significant gender differences in rates of being cyberbullied. Boys in Cyprus also reported higher rates of involvement in physical fights compared to girls.
