Another boat with 32 migrants arrived in Cyprus – One arrest

32 people arrived from Lebanon in a boat spotted 22 nautical miles south of Cape Greco. The group consisted of 19 men, 3 women, 7 unaccompanied minors, and 3 children. The boat was initially spotted by the Republic’s radar, and the Coast and Maritime Police rushed to the area to assist. The migrants, 30 Syrians and 2 Palestinians, were safely transported to the port of Larnaca and then transferred to the Pournara Temporary Accommodation Centre for Migrants in Kokkinotrimithia.

A 21-year-old man was remanded for seven days by the Famagusta district court to facilitate police investigations regarding the arrival of a boat carrying 25 irregular migrants, all Syrian nationals, in the maritime area southeast of Cape Greco. The man is accused of being the navigator of the boat and smuggling people illegally into the Republic.
