Nicosia responds to Ankara: The reactions to the Maritime Spatial Plan have no ground

All the decisions and plans of the Republic of Cyprus take into account its sovereign rights and are fully harmonized with international law, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letympiotis told KYPE in relation to the Maritime Spatial Plan.

Asked to comment on the reactions of Turkey and the Turkish side, Constantinos Letympiotis said that they record any reactions, but do not embrace them and "nor do they have ground for the Republic of Cyprus".

The Council of Ministers approved last Wednesday the "National Marine Spatial Plan" which specifies the spatio-temporal distribution of relevant current and future activities and uses in the maritime waters of the Republic.

The Deputy Minister of Shipping, Marina Hatzimanoli, stated that the aim of the plan is to contribute to the support and promotion of sustainable development at sea, applying an ecosystem approach, taking into account social, economic, environmental and cultural aspects, as well as promoting the coexistence of related activities and uses.
