The Cypriots are out in the fields

Cypriots are preparing for a mass excursion to the countryside today, Green Monday, observing the custom of fasting and celebration, a day so named because Christians were “cleansed” spiritually and physically. It is a day of fasting but it is also a holiday for Christians and is celebrated 48 days before Resurrection Sunday.
Green Monday for most people, means a trip to the fields, the mountains, and even the seaside, it means playing games, but also lovely pretzels, mollusks, and other delicacies.
It is accompanied by various customs, sometimes by dancing and singing, but there is one thing that stands out: kite flying. Once homemade, mostly factory-made. For the kite to be able to fly it needs a favorable wind, although in some areas, adjacent to Larnaca airport, a recommendation has been issued to avoid it.
Municipalities and communities in all provinces are currently organizing various events, offering food, from bean soup to laganas, but also wine. Most of them, accompany the events by dances and music.kite. mass excursion, Green Monday, fasting and celebration
