Just days after the discovery of two unclaimed bags containing nearly 43 kilograms of khat, a rare narcotic, the Customs Department has intercepted another “orphan” suitcase at Larnaca Airport, this time filled with marijuana.
According to Philenews, the suitcase had traveled from Singapore to Munich and then to Cyprus. During the collection of luggage, it was discovered that no one was waiting to claim it. Upon inspection, it was found to contain narcotics.
The Anti-Narcotics Unit was immediately notified, and its members awaited the recipient at Larnaca Airport, as the suitcase was registered to a specific person. The recipient, a 26-year-old man from Britain, arrived in the country on a different flight and rushed to collect his luggage.
The suitcase was opened in his presence and revealed packages containing 16 kilograms and 752 grams of cannabis. The 26-year-old was arrested and admitted to ownership of the drugs; however, he refused to disclose whether he intended to deliver them to anyone in Cyprus.
The suspect will appear before the Larnaca District Court today for the issuance of a detention order.suitcase. suitcase, narcotics, arrest
