Two arrested after 458 people arrive in Cyprus on migrant boats

Authorities on Monday intercepted six boats carrying 458 people off Cape Greco.According to philenews, a rescue operation on Monday afternoon safely escorted the migrants to the Ayia Napa marina, where they were processed before being moved to the Pournara Reception Centre.On the first boat, there were a total of 30 people: 18 men, three women, seven children, and two unaccompanied minors. The second boat carried 24 individuals: 14 men, three women, five children, and two unaccompanied minors. The third had 62 people: 36 men, six women, 11 children, and nine unaccompanied minors.The fourth boat had 37 people on board: 14 men, four women, 18 children, and one unaccompanied minor. The fifth carried 22 individuals: 14 men, one woman, three children, and four unaccompanied minors. The largest, the sixth boat, was carrying 283 people: 162 men, 27 women, 79 children, and 15 unaccompanied minors.The people told Police that they had set off from Lebanon after each paying three thousand dollars to an unidentified facilitator.Police arrested two men, a 31-year-old from Lebanon and a 23-year-old from Syria, on suspicion of organising the crossing.They are scheduled to appear before the Famagusta District Court today, facing charges related to human smuggling.migrants. migrant boats, rescue operation, human smuggling
