The way for the F-35s opens: Blinken's letter to Mitsotakis is a matter of time

The State Department will send two letters: One to the Greek prime minister, which will outline what else Athens will receive, and a letter to Congress, in which the US government will ensure that US F-16s, if given to Turkey, they will not be used against allies

It is only a matter of time – even hours – before the State Department sends the official letter approving the sale of F-35s to Greece, a move that will lead to the upgrading of the Air Force's capabilities and will provide the country with an arsenal of forces in air.

The official documents of Sweden's accession to NATO are expected to arrive in Washington in a few hours, as confirmed by the National Security Advisor of the White House, John Kirby. These documents must be filed with the US State Department, which is the custodian of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Then – probably today – the State Department will send two letters: One to the Greek prime minister, which will describe, in addition to the F-35s, what else Athens will receive, and a letter to Congress, with which the US government will assures lawmakers that US F-16s, if given to Turkey, will not be used against allies and will only be used for legitimate NATO military purposes.

Then, the official congressional notifications for the F-16 and F-35 are expected to be sent out almost simultaneously.

In the next few days, as far as Greece is concerned, the response to the official request sent by Athens a long time ago for the F-35s, i.e. the so-called letter of acceptance, will be sent, after which the negotiations for the final agreement for the sale of fighters.
