The investigation into the death of Dimitris Andronikou, known as “Dimitroui,” could take a turn as police gain access to telecommunications data.
This development follows the reclassification of the case from attempted murder to murder after Andronikou succumbed to his injuries.
With the new classification, police are now legally permitted to request the release of phone and messaging data belonging to the eight suspects already indicted, as well as others involved, according to local media reports.
Investigators have already acquired court warrants to examine the telecommunications data of individuals connected to the case.
Analysing calls and messages during the period surrounding the shooting is expected to reveal communication patterns, potentially strengthening the existing evidence against the accused. This is why the eight individuals remain at large and have not yet been rearrested for murder.
The Law Office is preparing indictments for premeditated murder and intends to refile the case as early as next week following the withdrawal of the current attempted murder charges.
As previously reported, eight individuals were charged and committed to stand trial before the Nicosia Criminal Court in early July.
The crime occurred on the afternoon of April 23, 2024, on the Paleochori-Anthoupoli road, when Andronikou was shot at close range by a passenger on a scooter that pulled alongside his motorcycle.
