President for Vasilikos: The state cannot be blackmailed; there is a plan B but I don’t want to get to that point

“I am in contact with the company myself, but also with some EU and non-EU member states, such as Permanent Members of the UN Security Council, to see how the prospects for the resumption of talks can be created,” President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides said today.
Speaking to reporters, while attending an event to launch a basketball tournament on wheels, the President of the Republic was asked about the issue of the Vasilikos terminal. He said that “the project has three phases. There is the ship, there is the onshore, and there is the terminal where there is some progress, some progress and some not progressing as we would like them to progress.
We are here to deal with any problems. I am not going to enter into a public dialogue with the company and I have to say that I am surprised by this need of the company for public intervention. The state is not being blackmailed; the state is faithful to its obligations and we always respond and we are here to deal with this issue as well.
I have requested a meeting with the Ambassador of China on Monday and the only topic of discussion is this one. We have a plan that needs to be implemented, it depends to a large extent – I am referring to the issue of energy in general, the objective of reducing the price of electricity – and it is also related to the progress in Vasilikos and the project that this company has undertaken with specific commitments.
With absolute good faith, we will manage the problems that exist and I hope that with goodwill on the other side, solutions will be found.”
Asked if there is a plan B, the President said “Of course, there is a plan B. We are obliged to think about plan B but I don’t want us to reach that point. I tell you clearly that the Government intends to proceed with everything that is provided for under the contract.”Vasilikos terminal.. resumption of talks, Vasilikos terminal, plan B
