Larnaca port: Strike cancelled as labour minister calls for dialogue

After the cessation of strike actions at Larnaca Port yesterday, discussions ensued today between the Minister of Labour, Yiannis Panayiotou, and representatives from both the employer and trade union factions.
It was mutually decided to actively engage in scheduled dialogues aimed at resolving discrepancies and implementing previously agreed-upon measures, with a commitment to steer clear of any potential confrontations.
After the conclusion of the meetings, the Minister stated the following:
The fluidity of the external environment makes it necessary to preserve stability within the country through cooperation among social partners, employers, and employees.
Ports constitute a critical sector of the Cypriot economy for which maintaining smooth operations through the amicable cooperation of all parties is additionally significant.
I note with satisfaction the mutual positive disposition for cooperation in accordance with the provisions of the Industrial Relations Code towards the direction of public interest in protecting labor peace.
Constructive participation has been agreed upon in the scheduled dialogue, which will continue with the contribution of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance to resolve differences and implement agreed-upon measures, avoiding any confrontations.
I am optimistic that the outcome of this process will be positive, and the contribution to this development will be mutually beneficial for all.dialogue. dialogues, discrepancies, cooperation
