{"id":9992,"date":"2024-04-29T08:00:48","date_gmt":"2024-04-29T05:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=9992"},"modified":"2024-04-29T08:00:48","modified_gmt":"2024-04-29T05:00:48","slug":"google-rival-tuta-complains-to-eu-tech-regulators-about-de-ranking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=9992","title":{"rendered":"Google rival Tuta complains to EU tech regulators about de-ranking"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/google-rival-tuta-complains-to-eu-tech-regulators-about-de-ranking.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>German email service Tuta Mail has complained to European Union tech regulators about what it described as a sudden drop in Google search results on the day the bloc\u2019s new tech rules kicked in.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-730845853\">\n<div id=\"cypru-1799980774\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-2100107864241-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The European Commission last month launched investigations into Alphabet (GOOGL.O) unit Google, Apple (AAPL.O) and Meta Platforms (META.O) over potential breaches of the new Digital Markets Act (DMA), with Google\u2019s case partly focused on whether search results discriminate against third-party services.<br \/>\nTuta Mail, which says it is the second-largest encrypted email service in the world with more than 10 million users, filed a complaint to the DMA taskforce on Tuesday.<br \/>\n\u201cAt the beginning of March 2024 Google suddenly stopped displaying our website for thousands of keywords, limiting search traffic to our site in large part to so-called \u2018branded traffic\u2019 only,\u201d the company said in its complaint seen by Reuters.<br \/>\n\u201cThis means people were no longer finding our encrypted email provider when searching for \u2018encrypted email\u2019, but only when explicitly searching for \u2018Tuta\u2019 or \u2018Tutanota\u2019,\u201d it said.<br \/>\nTuta Mail CEO Matthias Pfau said he does not understand why his company\u2019s ranking fell on the day the DMA became active.<br \/>\n\u201cObviously Google changed something in its search algorithms, but we do not know what they changed or why,\u201d he told Reuters in an interview.<br \/>\n\u201cWe have tried to get in contact with Google to discuss this issue, but have received radio silence.\u201d<br \/>\nGoogle said it does not unfairly promote its own products. Tech experts said websites can lose Google ranking due to algorithm changes.<br \/>\n\u201cSearch ranking updates absolutely do not aim to preference Google products, or any other particular website. The email provider in question is easily accessible globally on Search,\u201d a spokesperson said.<br \/>\n\u201cWe appreciate the feedback and will look into how we can ensure Search continues to return the most helpful, relevant results.\u201d<br \/>\nThe Commission declined to provide details.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Commission monitors compliance of gatekeepers with obligations, including in the context of on-going proceedings. We cannot comment on specific concerns being raised with us,\u201d a spokesperson said.<br \/>\nPfau said the impact on Tuta Mail has been dramatic.<br \/>\n\u201cAfter removing most branded keywords, we see that our total impressions per month (30 days) dropped by 88.47 per cent.
