{"id":9525,"date":"2024-04-24T21:00:53","date_gmt":"2024-04-24T18:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=9525"},"modified":"2024-04-24T21:00:53","modified_gmt":"2024-04-24T18:00:53","slug":"mps-propose-pension-regulation-bills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=9525","title":{"rendered":"MPs propose pension regulation bills"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/mps-propose-pension-regulation-bills.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>MPs on Thursday proposed six bills aimed at regulating the issue of multiple pensions and the retirement age limit for state officials during a House ethics committee meeting.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-477857323\">\n<div id=\"cypru-1214332957\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-7439089582604-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The six proposals were signed by committee head Demetris Demetriou, Akel MP Irini Charalambidou, Greens MP Stavros Papadouris and independent MP Alexandra Attalides.<br \/>\nAn additional bill was also proposed by Charalambidou, calling for a 90 per cent tax on pension amounts exceeding \u20ac70,000 annually for current state officials.<br \/>\nAccording to Demetriou, the six plus one bills were prepared by the auditor-general\u2019s office with technical assistance from MPs, and they are aimed at \u201caddressing the issue of multiple pensions and the retirement age limit for state officials, aiming to resolve the matter comprehensively.\u201d<br \/>\nHe stressed that although he may disagree with the auditor-general on various issues, \u201chis approach to this matter is appropriate and resolves the issue effectively without any constitutional concerns.\u201d<br \/>\nDimitriou then criticised the government\u2019s reaction to the proposal during earlier talks with state officials, who said the bills might be unconstitutional. The committee chair deemed their reaction \u201chighly misguided.\u201d<br \/>\nSpeaking to the media after Demetriou, Charalambidou described the submission of the six plus one bills as a \u201csignificant step towards satisfying the people\u2019s sense of justice.\u201d She also praised the auditor-general\u2019s office for help on the matter, as did Papadouris, who said its input was \u201ca realistic approach to address the situation without posing any constitutional obstacles.\u201d<br \/>\nHe also hinted that if the proposals are approved and referred for further examination, there might be the possibility of amending any points deemed unconstitutional by state officials.<br \/>\nAttalides said that the submission of the six plus one bills \u201crightly addresses concerns and societal devaluation regarding the benefits and pensions of state officials.\u201d<br \/>\nShe explained that the proposals address both the issue of multiple pensions and the retirement age,
