{"id":9409,"date":"2024-04-24T00:00:24","date_gmt":"2024-04-23T21:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=9409"},"modified":"2024-04-24T00:00:24","modified_gmt":"2024-04-23T21:00:24","slug":"limassol-coastal-path-shameful","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=9409","title":{"rendered":"Limassol coastal path , \u2018shameful\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/limassol-coastal-path-shameful.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>Improvements to the coastal path in Limassol should be a government priority, members of the House commerce committee said on Tuesday but instead no-one from the interior ministry even attended their discussion on the matter.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-377182399\">\n<div id=\"cypru-1071421497\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-2105525896785-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201c<strong>We should feel nothing but shame over the beachfront promenade connecting all of Limassol\u2019s five-star hotels<\/strong>,<strong>\u201d<\/strong> Disy deputy Nicos Sykas said.<br \/>\n\u201cAfter the adverse weather of 2023, and during the committee\u2019s first discussion of the matter, there were promises from the government, specifically the interior ministry, that it could immediately proceed with temporary landscaping of the path to ensure it remains accessible,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nAfter no-one turned up for Tuesday\u2019s discussion, Sykas invited the interior minister to visit the promenade and see for himself the state it is currently in.<br \/>\nHe expressed the hope that with the government\u2019s \u201cquick reflexes\u201d the problem will be solved, adding that the interior ministry \u201chas an obligation\u201d to be present at the next House commerce committee in 15 days, and to immediately give instructions to create unhindered access to the footpath.<br \/>\nAkel\u2019s Costas Costa said on November 26, 2023, serious damages were recorded in four or five spots on the footpath after strong sea storms, adding that when committee members visited the location on December 15 for an inspection, \u201c<strong>we saw unbelievable things<\/strong>.<br \/>\n\u201cAs a Cypriot, I am ashamed that in one of the most expensive areas of Cyprus, with the biggest and most expensive hotels, there is a pedestrian footpath used daily by thousands of locals and tourists which is in this condition,\u201d he added.<br \/>\nCosta added that apart from the damaged areas of the footpath, which have been fenced off, deputies saw \u201cpublic showers in a deplorable state, prunings thrown away and abandoned for many months, electricity cables cut and exposed and weeds everywhere, with no lighting in the evenings.<br \/>\n\u201c<strong>We saw wheelchairs unable to move forward, parents with their children in strollers having to go down to the sand because since November, no-one has been interested in solving this problem<\/strong>,\u201d he stressed.<br \/>\nThe estimated cost of repairs is \u20ac300,000.<br \/>\nFinally, he said complaints from tourists are continuous.<br \/>\nGreen Party deputy Stavros Papadouris said that Limassol and other tourist towns in Cyprus benefit from a large amount of cash which also helps the state coffers and questioned whether \u201cwe are prepared to lose\u201d this amount.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Improvements to the coastal path in Limassol are a government priority, but no one from the interior ministry attended a discussion on the matter.
