{"id":9210,"date":"2024-04-22T18:00:08","date_gmt":"2024-04-22T15:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=9210"},"modified":"2024-04-22T18:00:08","modified_gmt":"2024-04-22T15:00:08","slug":"nicosia-s-historic-paphos-gate-opened-to-visitors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=9210","title":{"rendered":"Nicosia, \u2019s historic Paphos gate opened to visitors"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/nicosia-s-historic-paphos-gate-opened-to-visitors.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>The archaeological site at the <strong>Paphos gate on the western edge of Nicosia\u2019s walled city is now open for visitors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-1825082324\">\n<div id=\"cypru-1696042800\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-5956784277195-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThrough the antiquities department\u2019s excavations in the area, the importance of the gate is one of the main access points to Nicosia\u2019s walled city,\u201d Deputy Culture Minister Vasiliki Kassianidou said.<br \/>\nShe said the gate had \u201ctimeless importance\u201d from the Venetian period until Cyprus was under British rule and added the role of the area during the period of Ottoman rule in Cyprus.<br \/>\nExcavations in the area uncovered the founding of the Arab Ahmet aqueduct, which she said, \u201c<strong>completes yet another mosaic in the history of the area<\/strong>\u201d.<br \/>\nShe added that due to the importance of the findings unearthed in the area, the antiquities department conducted a study with the aim of \u201chighlighting the site as an experiential museum of Nicosia\u2019s history\u201d.<br \/>\nShe pointed out that this was \u201cnot an easy task\u201d, but that they managed to \u201cachieve a very successful result\u201d.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Paphos gate is today, not only for tourists but also for locals, a reference point and a beloved historical and cultural significance,\u201d she said, going on to emphasise the \u201c<strong>importance of the promotion of places such as Nicosia\u2019s Venetian walls<\/strong>\u201d for the preservation of the capital\u2019s cultural identity.<br \/>\nShe added that the project\u2019s success is \u201cproof that cooperation between local authorities, the competent departments, and Cyprus\u2019 research institutions can lead to the best possible result for the preservation and promotion of its monuments\u201d.<br \/>\n\u201cThe preservation of our cultural heritage is <strong>a collective responsibility and long-term fight which concerns us all.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The archaeological site at the Paphos gate on the western edge of Nicosia\u2019s walled city is now open for visitors.
