{"id":8846,"date":"2024-04-19T15:00:41","date_gmt":"2024-04-19T12:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=8846"},"modified":"2024-04-19T15:00:41","modified_gmt":"2024-04-19T12:00:41","slug":"gesy-requires-fruitful-contribution-of-all-involved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=8846","title":{"rendered":"Gesy , \u2018requires fruitful contribution\u2019 of all involved"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/gesy-requires-fruitful-contribution-of-all-involved.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>The success of Gesy requires the fruitful contribution of all involved<\/strong>, Health Minister Michael Damianos said on Friday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-311944777\">\n<div id=\"cypru-588919992\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-3765501548477-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Speaking at the opening of a nursing and midwifery conference, he pointed out that nurses and midwives make up the largest single group of professionals inside Gesy.<br \/>\nHe said they have \u201cthe experience and knowledge which can lead on a daily basis to the improvement of efficiency, effectiveness, the provision of quality care, and the achievement of optimal outcomes for patients and the general population.\u201d<br \/>\nTo this end, he said \u201cit is important that <strong>nurses and policy makers focus on the delivery of effective nursing care<\/strong> and efficient care systems as a key condition for achieving optimal health and wellbeing for all.\u201d<br \/>\nHe went on to praise nurses for their \u201cmultilayered and multidimensional\u201d role, adding that nursing \u201chas the human at its centre and always acts based on humanitarian values\u201d.<br \/>\nHe added that the health sector\u2019s focus should now be on \u201cimproving the quality of care provided\u201d, and that this can be achieved through cooperation with the various involved department and agencies.<br \/>\nWith this in mind, he said his ministry is working for \u201c<strong>the continuous improvement of the level of health and wellbeing<\/strong> among the population\u201d and doing so by following its \u201cguiding principles\u201d.<br \/>\nThose guiding principles, he said, are \u201chuman rights, patients\u2019 rights, human dignity and solidarity, and equality of access\u201d.<br \/>\nHowever, despite Damianou\u2019s warm words, nurses themselves in some quarters are less than enamoured with the government\u2019s performance.<br \/>\nNurses\u2019 union Pasyno and the European Federation of Nurses\u2019 Associations on Friday penned a joint letter to Damianou, expressing concern regarding training of nurses in Cyprus in relation to the European Union\u2019s mutual recognition of standards and professional qualifications.<br \/>\nTheir concerns relate to <strong>the planned reduction of the number of hours in Cyprus required to train a nurse<\/strong> to 3,800. Such a reduction would not comply with the EU minimum of 4,600 hours, which nurses say could endanger patient safety and will infringe upon their human rights.<br \/>\nIn the letter, they said Cypriot nurses\u2019 EU freedom of movement \u201cwill be jeopardised if we discard the directive\u201d, as their qualifications would no longer be recognised as having met the minimum European standards.<br \/>\nIn addition, they said, research carried out over the last three decades \u201cshows that<strong> a 10 per cent reduction in nurses\u2019 education increases patient mortality by seven per cent<\/strong>\u201d.<br \/>\nThey said, \u201cwe need highly educated and motivated nurses who protect people in the health care system and who are present at patients\u2019 bedsides and close to the people 24 hours a day, seven days a week.\u201d<br \/>\nThey added that \u201cit is important for national governments of the EU to ensure that their health systems have the necessary nursing workforce, with the necessary skills, to provide high quality and safe healthcare services.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cThe nursing shortage crisis cannot be solved by reducing the qualifications required to be a nurse or carrying out unethical recruitment methods,\u201d they said.<br \/>\nThey added, \u201cpatient health and safety is of paramount importance, especially in these very difficult times.
