Ammochostos CID officers conducted an operation in the early hours today to locate perpetrators of burglaries and thefts, aiming to investigate several cases reported to CID and take measures to prevent serious crime.
\nThe entire operation was based on an assessment of the modus operandi, place, and time the suspects were active, resulting in locating part of the stolen property and arresting seven individuals. Ammochostos CID\u2019s burglary unit is investigating the involvement of the arrested individuals in a total of nine burglary and theft cases, committed between January and April 2024 in Ayia Napa, from which electronic devices and clothing and footwear worth around 5000 euros were stolen.
\nTwo of the seven suspects were identified by Ammochostos CID members, who were under surveillance as part of the coordinated operation, in an area in Ayia Napa around 4:00 am on Wednesday.
\nThe two suspects were behaving suspiciously within the courtyard of a residential complex, where they unsuccessfully attempted to burgle residences. They were discreetly followed by police members until they entered a residence, where they reside, as subsequently confirmed.
\nUpon the entry of the two suspects into their residence, police conducted a search, during which it was found that five more individuals were present and residing in the house.
\nA search of the residence revealed property and evidence believed to be connected to several recent burglary and theft cases in a residential complex in Ayia Napa, while additional property was found for which it is being investigated if it is stolen goods, as the seven suspects failed to provide satisfactory explanations for its possession.
\nThe seven suspects, males aged between 23 and 31, were arrested for the on-the-spot offence of illegal possession of property. Subsequently, as evidence emerged regarding the commission of a total of nine burglary, attempted burglary, and theft cases, arrest warrants were issued against them, under which they were arrested and placed in custody for police investigations.
