{"id":8230,"date":"2024-04-15T09:00:28","date_gmt":"2024-04-15T06:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=8230"},"modified":"2024-04-15T09:00:28","modified_gmt":"2024-04-15T06:00:28","slug":"ecb-s-confidence-in-fight-against-inflation-growing-villeroy-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=8230","title":{"rendered":"ECB, \u2019s confidence in fight against inflation growing, Villeroy says"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/ecb-s-confidence-in-fight-against-inflation-growing-villeroy-says.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>The European Central Bank (ECB) is increasingly confident that it is winning the fight against inflation, which makes an interest rate cut in June very likely, according to ECB policymaker Francois Villeroy de Galhau.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-1006063256\">\n<div id=\"cypru-985041372\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-5479494708395-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The ECB held rates at a record high last week but signalled it could start cutting them as soon as June, even though stubbornly high US inflation could stop the Federal Reserve from following close behind.<br \/>\n\u201cBarring surprises, we should decide a first rate cut during our June meeting. We are indeed growing more and more confident in the disinflation path,\u201d Villeroy told the French JDD magazine.<br \/>\n\u201cThe interest rate tool has been an effective weapon against inflation. We had to lift that rate to 4 per cent but it is less than in the United States, where it stands at 5.5 per cent,\u201d he added.<br \/>\nVilleroy, who is also governor of the French central bank, is among a growing number of ECB policymakers that have supported rate reductions.<br \/>\nHe said last month that if inflation undershot the ECB\u2019s 2 per cent target for a sustained period then the ECB risked having to cut rates even more aggressively.<br \/>\nHe told JDD: \u201cThe June rate cut should be followed by more rate cuts by the end of the year; I call for a pragmatic and yet adequately nimble gradualism, based on economic data.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cThat being said, we will not go back to ultra low, even negative rates: the ones that we have seen during the 2015-2022 period
