{"id":8060,"date":"2024-04-13T17:01:18","date_gmt":"2024-04-13T14:01:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=8060"},"modified":"2024-04-13T17:01:18","modified_gmt":"2024-04-13T14:01:18","slug":"cyprus-well-below-eu-renewable-energy-target","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=8060","title":{"rendered":"Cyprus , \u2018well below\u2019 EU renewable energy target"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/cyprus-well-below-eu-renewable-energy-target.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Cyprus\u2019 contribution to the EU renewable energy target \u201cso far is well below that seen in EU legislation<\/strong>\u201d, EU Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevicius said on Saturday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-1096582269\">\n<div id=\"cypru-1073012134\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-3810772477184-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), he added however that the island has taken \u201csignificant steps\u201d towards implementing green reforms and investments and added that \u201cthere is untapped potential of renewable energy in the country\u201d and that the updated national Recovery and Resilience Plan is an important tool in accelerating its use.<br \/>\nAhead of his visit to Cyprus on Monday, he commented on Cyprus\u2019 failures in Natura 2000 areas and the EU\u2019s decision to take the country to the EU Court of Justice.<br \/>\n\u201c<strong>Areas of conservation will not work unless there are appropriate measures applied<\/strong>,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nHowever, he added that environmental protection and development of tourism should not be contradictory goals.<br \/>\nHe also spoke extensively about the EU\u2019s Common Fisheries Policy and how the fishing sector can adapt to meet environmental challenges while also ensuring the livelihood of professionals in the sector.<br \/>\nSinkevicius also referred to the role that the <strong>EU plays in supporting bi-communal cooperation on the environment in Cyprus<\/strong>, through technical support and funding, as well as through projects with an environmental footprint that benefit both sides.<br \/>\nHe commented on the need to prevent increased wildfires due to climate change, as well as on reforestation policies, air pollution and ways to deal with the increase of dust storms in Cyprus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8211;
