Consumers are becoming slightly less sceptical about bitcoin, a Deutsche Bank survey published on Monday showed, although just under a third of those questioned still expect its price to drop sharply by the end of 2024.<\/div>\n

WHY IT\u2019S IMPORTANT<\/h2>\n
Although people have poured billions of dollars into bitcoin, hoping for returns if its price rises, top regulators have said it has no inherent value and presents\u00a0risks.<\/div>\n

BY THE NUMBERS<\/h2>\n
Deutsche Bank said it surveyed more than 3,600 consumers, with 52 per cent of respondents saying cryptocurrencies will be an \u201cimportant asset class and method of payment transactions\u201d in future. Less than 40 per cent said that when surveyed in September 2023.<\/div>\n
A third of U.S. respondents expect bitcoin to drop below $20,000 by the end of 2024. This group is getting slightly smaller. It was 35 per cent in February and 36 per cent in January.<\/div>\n
The number of people who think cryptocurrencies are \u201cjust a fad that will eventually fade\u201d dropped to less than 1 per cent.<\/div>\n
Still, only 10 per cent of respondents expect bitcoin to be above $75,000 by year-end.<\/div>\n
Bitcoin hit a three-week high on Monday. It reached an\u00a0all-time high\u00a0of $73,803.25 in March, recovering from a\u00a0dramatic plunge in 2022.<\/div>\n
The recent revival is due to excitement about spot bitcoin ETFs and expectations of rate cuts, analysts\u00a0say.<\/div>\n

WHAT\u2019S NEXT<\/h2>\n
Some analysts see bitcoin\u2019s recent recovery above $70,000 as a sign that investors are shrugging off the warnings.<\/div>\n
Deutsche Bank analysts said expect bitcoin\u2019s price to be supported by the upcoming\u00a0\u201cbitcoin halving\u201d, as well as by regulation, central bank rate cuts, and expectations that the SEC will approve\u00a0spot ethereum ETFs.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
