{"id":7496,"date":"2024-04-09T17:00:52","date_gmt":"2024-04-09T14:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=7496"},"modified":"2024-04-09T17:00:52","modified_gmt":"2024-04-09T14:00:52","slug":"step-in-right-direction-for-third-country-nationals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=7496","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Step in right direction\u2019 for third country nationals"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/step-in-right-direction-for-third-country-nationals.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>An \u201cinitially positive response\u201d from stakeholders on the issue of <strong>using workers from third countries to fill gaps in the labour market<\/strong> is a \u201cstep in the right direction\u201d, Labour Minister Yiannis Panayiotou said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-730170513\">\n<div id=\"cypru-1359394562\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-8270241075287-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Speaking after a meeting with the employers and trade unions, he said a final meeting is due to take place within the next few days, with the hope that a conclusion and an agreement can be reached to set out new rules regarding the hiring of third country nationals in Cyprus.<br \/>\nThe agreement, he said, foresees three new stipulations.<br \/>\nFirstly, <strong>there will be an \u201cadvisory tripartite technical committee\u201d<\/strong> comprised of representatives of the government, trade unions and employers\u2019 organisations, which \u201cwill have an advisory role to the ministry\u201d.<br \/>\nThe ministry will continue to be \u201cresponsible for making all relevant decisions, upgrading the framework regarding the living conditions of third country nationals who come to work in Cyprus, so that these conditions can be more appropriately defined so that the corresponding checks can take place,\u201d Panayiotou said.<br \/>\nIn addition, the agreement will stipulate a time limit for the completion of consultations and the evaluation of existing procedures, so that any new laws can be implemented before Autumn comes and in view of next year\u2019s tourism season.<br \/>\nIf this is not possible, he said, <strong>his ministry will submit a new proposal to cabinet<\/strong>.<br \/>\nOn immediate next steps, he said \u201cthe scheduled meeting of the collective bodies belonging to the employers\u2019 and industrialists\u2019 federation (Oeb) is scheduled for next Thursday, so our final meeting will be scheduled accordingly.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cI am optimistic in relation to the final outcome, which, according to <strong>today\u2019s indications \u2026 are positive<\/strong>,\u201d he added.<br \/>\n\u201cThe development of the economy and social cohesion require the constructive cooperation of all sides, to ensure the progress and wellbeing of the people of this country,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nHe went on to say that \u201cespecially at the present time, the fluidity of the international environment and major external changes make unity and cooperation at home imperative to ensure smoothness and stability at all levels.<br \/>\n\u201cFor several weeks now, together with the leaderships of trade unions and employers\u2019 organisations, we spent a lot of time and delved into all the aspects of these issues,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nThose conversations resulted in \u201c<strong>the formation of a framework which was put before the stakeholders<\/strong>,\u201d which, he said, received a positive response in principle.<br \/>\n\u201cThe majority of the organisations which represent the various stakeholders have already convened their bodies and ratified their relevant positions.
