{"id":7034,"date":"2024-04-05T23:00:10","date_gmt":"2024-04-05T20:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=7034"},"modified":"2024-04-05T23:00:10","modified_gmt":"2024-04-05T20:00:10","slug":"trump-subpoena-to-nbc-over-stormy-daniels-documentary-blocked-by-judge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=7034","title":{"rendered":"Trump subpoena to NBC over Stormy Daniels documentary blocked by judge"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/trump-subpoena-to-nbc-over-stormy-daniels-documentary-blocked-by-judge.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>Donald Trump\u2019s\u00a0subpoena to Comcast-owned\u00a0CMCSA.O\u00a0NBCUniversal for material related to a recent documentary about porn star Stormy Daniels was blocked on Friday by the judge overseeing the former U.S. president\u2019s April 15 criminal trial.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-1825693258\">\n<div id=\"cypru-737775954\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-2757748771521-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Justice Juan Merchan said Trump\u2019s claim that Daniels and NBC conspired to release the film close to the trial to damage him was unsupported.<br \/>\n\u201cHis subpoena and the demands therein are the very definition of a fishing expedition,\u201d the judge wrote in a court order.<br \/>\nNeither Trump\u2019s lawyers nor NBC Universal immediately responded to requests for comment.<br \/>\nTrump is accused of covering up his former lawyer Michael Cohen\u2019s $130,000 payment to Daniels for her silence before the 2016 election about a sexual encounter she says she had with Trump in 2006.<br \/>\nThe 2024 Republican presidential candidate has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records and denies any such encounter with Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.<br \/>\nThe documentary, \u201cStormy,\u201d was released on NBC\u2019s streaming service Peacock on March 18.<br \/>\nThe trial was initially scheduled to start on March 25, but Merchan delayed it by three weeks after Trump alleged prosecutors with the Manhattan District Attorney\u2019s office were trying to keep evidence related to Cohen from him. The judge later found that concern to be meritless.<br \/>\nIn Friday\u2019s order, Merchan wrote that Trump subpoenaed NBC on March 11 for documents related to the trial\u2019s premiere date and any compensation to Daniels. NBC asked Merchan to block the subpoena on March 20, and said Daniels had no right to approve the documentary\u2019s content or release timing, the order said.<br \/>\nTrump also faces three other criminal indictments, but they do not yet have firm trial dates. That means the hush money case in New York state court in Manhattan could be the only one to go to trial before his expected rematch with Democratic President Joe Biden in the Nov. 5 election.<br \/>\nThe other cases stem from Trump\u2019s efforts to reverse his 2020 loss to Biden and his handling of sensitive government documents after leaving the White House in 2021.
