{"id":6906,"date":"2024-04-05T01:00:10","date_gmt":"2024-04-04T22:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=6906"},"modified":"2024-04-05T01:00:10","modified_gmt":"2024-04-04T22:00:10","slug":"judge-denies-new-york-county-s-request-to-let-it-enforce-trans-sports-restrictions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=6906","title":{"rendered":"Judge denies New York county, \u2019s request to let it enforce trans sports restrictions"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/judge-denies-new-york-county-s-request-to-let-it-enforce-trans-sports-restrictions.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>A federal judge on Thursday denied a request by New York\u2019s Nassau County to let it enforce new restrictions on transgender athletes at county sports venues without facing legal action by the state\u2019s attorney general for violations of anti-discrimination laws.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-1750902307\">\n<div id=\"cypru-1193002095\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-8608923089684-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, a Republican, issued an\u00a0order\u00a0in February that denies permits at county-run parks and sports facility to girls\u2019 and women\u2019s sports teams that cannot attest that all their members were designated female on their original birth certificates.<br \/>\nHis order, one of scores of laws, rules and regulations advanced by Republican politicians around the U.S. to regulate trans people\u2019s conduct, does not place any restrictions on men\u2019s or mixed teams.<br \/>\nDays later, New York Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat, sent Blakeman a letter telling him to rescind the order, which encompasses a large section of Long Island adjacent to New York City, or risk legal consequences. She called the order \u201ctransphobic and blatantly illegal\u201d under the state\u2019s human rights laws, which put New York among 22 states that forbid discrimination based on gender identity.<br \/>\nBlakeman sued James in U.S. District Court on Long Island, asking the judge to order New York\u2019s chief law-enforcement officer not to pursue legal action against the county, and arguing that the state\u2019s anti-discrimination laws violate the U.S. Constitution.<br \/>\nOn Thursday, Judge Nusrat Choudhury ruled against Nassau County, noting that the Constitution\u2019s 11th Amendment generally prevents a local government from suing a state government in federal courts.<br \/>\nShe also ruled that Nassau County had no legal standing, nor did an unnamed 16-year-old girl who plays volleyball who joined Blakeman as a plaintiff in the lawsuit through her parents.<br \/>\n\u201cThere are no facts in the record showing that any specific cisgender woman or girl in Nassau County will face imminent injury in an athletic event involving a transgender woman or girl on Nassau County Parks property if the Executive Order is invalidated,\u201d Choudhury wrote.<br \/>\nThe judge said she would rule on the attorney general\u2019s motion to dismiss the lawsuit entirely later in April. A spokesman for Blakeman did not respond to requests for comment, and the New York attorney general\u2019s office declined to comment beyond its court filings.<br \/>\nSince issuing his order, Blakeman has been sued in a state court\u00a0by at least one women\u2019s team\u00a0accusing the county of violating anti-discrimination laws.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A
