{"id":6878,"date":"2024-04-04T21:01:26","date_gmt":"2024-04-04T18:01:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=6878"},"modified":"2024-04-04T21:01:26","modified_gmt":"2024-04-04T18:01:26","slug":"north-coalition-party-mulls-leaving-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=6878","title":{"rendered":"North coalition party mulls leaving , \u2018govt\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/north-coalition-party-mulls-leaving-govt.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>The DP, the second-largest party in the north\u2019s three-party ruling coalition, is <strong>considering leaving the \u2018government\u2019<\/strong>, it was learned on Thursday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-1573048622\">\n<div id=\"cypru-1161723539\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-6706373022512-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The party\u2019s congress is to convene on Thursday with the possibility of withdrawing from the \u2018government\u2019 on its agenda, with announcements reportedly to be made on Thursday evening.<br \/>\nParty leader and the north\u2019s \u2018deputy prime minister\u2019 Fikri Ataoglu is not present at the meeting, which will instead be chaired by its general secretary Serhat Akpinar. However, it is understood that <strong>Ataoglu will implement whatever is decided at Thursday\u2019s meeting<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe DP has long been the kingmaker in Turkish Cypriot politics and has spent 19 of the last 30 years in \u2018government\u2019, forming coalitions with no fewer than five different parties.<br \/>\nTheir current stint in \u2018government\u2019 began in 2020 under UBP \u2018prime minister\u2019 Ersan Saner. They have since stuck by the side of the UBP through two more \u2018prime ministers\u2019, namely Faiz Sucuoglu and incumbent Unal Ustel.<br \/>\nShould they elect to leave \u2018government\u2019, the \u2018government\u2019 would not automatically collapse, but it would leave the remaining two parties with a \u2018parliamentary\u2019 majority of just two.<br \/>\nIn addition, <strong>it would mean the UBP would be reliant on the increasingly volatile YDP<\/strong> to pass legislation. The YDP is set to hold a party leadership election this month, with its two leadership candidates Erhan Arikli and Talip Atalay in open conflict with one another.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Democratic Party (DP) in the north is considering leaving the government, with party leader Fikri Ataoglu expected to implement the decision.
