{"id":6476,"date":"2024-04-02T03:00:39","date_gmt":"2024-04-02T00:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=6476"},"modified":"2024-04-02T03:00:39","modified_gmt":"2024-04-02T00:00:39","slug":"turkish-cypriots-future-lies-in-european-values","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=6476","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Turkish Cypriots\u2019 future lies in European values\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/turkish-cypriots-future-lies-in-european-values.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>The Turkish Cypriots\u2019 future \u201clies in European values\u201d<\/strong>, opposition party CTP leader Tufan Erhurman said on Monday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-772930664\">\n<div id=\"cypru-1796478803\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-2937546155820-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Erhurman was speaking in \u2018parliament\u2019 about the north\u2019s relationship with international law, and criticised some who have alluded to \u201cthe advantages of not being recognised\u201d.<br \/>\nThese \u201cadvantages\u201d, he said, \u201care the things which are causing us trouble today.\u201d<br \/>\nHe referenced matters such as smuggling and human trafficking, which have come to the fore with heightened sensitivity regarding the north\u2019s higher education sector in light of the ongoing \u201cfake diploma scandal\u201d.<br \/>\nHe said measures taken against human trafficking which are \u201cdone easily in other countries\u201d cannot be carried out in the north.<br \/>\n\u201c<strong>This money is not clean money<\/strong>. Unclean money drives out clean money. An unclean person also drives out a clean person,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nWith this in mind, he said efforts had been made in the past to align the north with international law, pointing to the establishment of the Immovable Property Commission as an example.<br \/>\nHe said the commission is \u201can example of a relationship we have with international law despite our lack of recognition,\u201d but lamented the fact that further similar steps have not been taken by those who hold the levers of power in the north.<br \/>\n\u201cWe passed European Union harmonisation laws, what happened as a result of that? There is a committee on EU harmonisation in parliament, and it is treated as if it does not exist. <strong>Those who claim to rule the country right now do not care<\/strong>. They are taking us out of the international community,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nHe added, \u201cthe Turkish Cypriot people\u2019s future lies in European values \u2026 Unless international standards guide us, many things will happen to us. We need to talk about the system now.<br \/>\n\u201cWe need to talk about why our system produces these results. This system made some people rich. Did our lack of system in itself ensure social justice in this country? Did it provide fair income distribution?\u201d<br \/>\nHe said that the north\u2019s retreat from the international community has left it \u201c<strong>in a worse condition than even 10 years ago<\/strong>\u201d.<br \/>\nTo this end, he touched on the Cyprus problem, saying \u201cwe are a people who have demonstrated our will to solve the Cyprus problem and therefore to meet with the international community.<br \/>\n\u201cThe reason for the lack of a solution in this country, especially in the post-2004 period, is the Greek Cypriot leadership.\u201d<br \/>\nHe went on to say that the existence of a solution process is \u201cvery important for the continued existence of the Turkish Cypriot people\u201d, but that those in power in the north at the moment are in fact \u201cvery satisfied with the status quo\u201d.<br \/>\nIn this regard, he said to the Turkish Cypriot leadership that \u201ctoday, <strong>you have made criteria for the resumption of negotiations that the international community does not understand<\/strong> at all and that we do not understand either.
