{"id":6428,"date":"2024-04-01T18:00:24","date_gmt":"2024-04-01T15:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=6428"},"modified":"2024-04-01T18:00:24","modified_gmt":"2024-04-01T15:00:24","slug":"turkish-cypriot-social-media-journalist-bailed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=6428","title":{"rendered":"Turkish Cypriot social media journalist bailed"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/turkish-cypriot-social-media-journalist-bailed.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>Turkish Cypriot social media journalist <strong>Serdinc Maypa was released on bail on Monday<\/strong>, after having been charged with violating individuals\u2019 right to privacy.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-1249650210\">\n<div id=\"cypru-1691552253\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-8949905590404-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Maypa had been arrested on Thursday and remanded in custody for three days on Friday, and the police on Monday requested that his remand be extended for a further four days so any of his potential accomplices in the alleged illegal obtaining of documents could be investigated.<br \/>\nHowever, Maypa\u2019s lawyer objected to the request, saying the case had been brought against his client to \u201cintimidate\u201d him.<br \/>\n<strong>The police insisted there was a chance he could tamper with evidence<\/strong> and interfere with witnesses, but the judge disagreed.<br \/>\nAs a result, he was released on a 35,000TL (\u20ac1,016) bail, on the condition that he present himself to his local police station once a week, and that two Turkish Cypriots sign guarantees worth 500,000TL (\u20ac14,511).<br \/>\nThe police said a total of 11 statements had been taken, and that they wished to speak to 13 more people.<br \/>\nIn addition, they said, <strong>records on his mobile phone and computer showed 2,586 relevant messages and 28,273 photographs and documents<\/strong>, some of which were \u2018government\u2019 documents.<br \/>\nThey added that they had requested that Maypa\u2019s mobile carrier disclosed the names of the people he had spoken with, with the carrier yet to respond to that request.<br \/>\nThey also said an investigation will be launched into the 1,000-page document containing data of people who had caught Covid-19 which was found at Maypa\u2019s house.<br \/>\nThe north\u2019s \u2018health ministry\u2019 is expected to file a complaint about Maypa\u2019s possession of the document, with investigations set to centre on the possibility of information being leaked from the Dr Burhan Nalbantoglu hospital in northern Nicosia.<br \/>\nAsked in court on Friday how he had come into possession of the documents, Maypa had said \u201c<strong>storks brought them<\/strong>\u201d.<br \/>\nThe number of complaints filed against Maypa has now risen to 13, with eight Bangladeshi nationals having accused him of violating their privacy since Friday,<br \/>\nInitially, complaints had been filed by officials from the north\u2019s electricity authority Kib-Tek, the Cyprus Turkish building contractors\u2019 association, the Development Bank, and two separate insurance companies.<br \/>\n<strong>Maypa himself has also made allegations<\/strong> regarding the institutions which filed complaints against him, with the north\u2019s police set to investigate the claims he has made.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Turkish Cypriot social media journalist Serdinc Maypa was released on bail on Monday after being charged with violating individuals&#8217; right to privacy.
