messaging application Viber<\/strong> due to the lack of an official electronic communication method, trade union Isotita\u2019s police branch chairman Nikos Loizidis said on Thursday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-1151670875\">\n<div id=\"cypru-995795273\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-5089658677982-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Speaking to Alpha TV, he said the police are suffering from a \u201clack of technological infrastructure for communication,\u201d adding, \u201cwe are still in the era of the fax\u201d.<br \/>\nIn the absence of an official method of communication, he said, police are \u201cforced to talk and communicate on Viber group chats. <strong>If Viber ever goes down, the police will go down too!<\/strong>\u201d<br \/>\nHe also took the time to criticise the police\u2019s decision to require its staff to work longer hours for no extra pay as part of a clampdown on organised crime over the next two months.<br \/>\nHe said, \u201csome people have not realised that there are employment laws in this country and police officers are employees.\u201d<br \/>\nReferring to the police\u2019s call on Tuesday for officers to \u201cfeel the highest duty they have to serve,\u201d he asked whether police could now be divided based on their merit of whether they would be willing to work for free.<br \/>\n\u201cAre there now two categories of police officers? <strong>How did we divide the police into patriots and non-patriots?<\/strong>\u201d he asked.<br \/>\nIsotita had on Wednesday threatened legal action over the plans, saying they will \u201cmake sure to move through the courts to collect the money our members deserve, up to the very last euro.\u201d<br \/>\nThey also criticised the chief of police\u2019s \u201cchoice to invoke the patriotism and sense of duty of the affected members of the police in order to not pay them overtime for the next two months\u201d.<br \/>\nThey added, \u201cwithout consultation and without identifying the problem which will be created in the police\u2019s orderly operation, they proceeded with unilateral arbitrary decisions which violate the fundamental labour rights of police officers.\u201d<br \/>\nTo this end, they criticised the \u201c<strong>disorganisation, sloppiness, lack of will, lack of vigour, lack of courage, and reluctance to dare to make
