{"id":5646,"date":"2024-03-27T10:00:56","date_gmt":"2024-03-27T08:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=5646"},"modified":"2024-03-27T10:00:56","modified_gmt":"2024-03-27T08:00:56","slug":"cybc-employees-to-strike-after-payments-delayed-for-over-a-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=5646","title":{"rendered":"CyBC employees to strike after payments delayed for over a month"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cybc-employees-to-strike-after-payments-delayed-for-over-a-month.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) employees announced on Wednesday that they will be carrying out strikes after having faced <strong>delayed payment of their salaries for over a month<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-1486529193\">\n<div id=\"cypru-309795559\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-4422006693819-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Meanwhile, a meeting has been scheduled between stakeholders at the Ministry of Labour for 12.30pm, with hopes to resolve the issue.<br \/>\nThe payment delays are due to <strong>late submission of the national broadcaster\u2019s budget<\/strong> to Parliament.<br \/>\nThe strike action comes after CyBC employees\u2019 patience ran out, having being unpaid for February and now facing the prospect of repeated late payment for March.<br \/>\nThe unions communicated their decision to CyBC management after a letter from the director of personnel informed staff that <strong>the corporation\u2019s accounts had been frozen<\/strong> and payroll would be affected.<br \/>\nThe blocking of CyBC\u2019s bank accounts has already affected hundreds of employees who have yet to receive their salaries for the month of February.<br \/>\nUnions announced that <strong>strikes will be held every day from 1.30pm-2.30pm and 8pm-9pm starting on Friday<\/strong> until employees get paid.<br \/>\nEmployees cannot be victimised and the non-payment of wages goes <strong>against legislation protecting workers\u2019 rights to full and timely payment<\/strong>, the unions have stated.<br \/>\nThey added that, moreover, the CyBC management and administration are fully responsible for the situation.<br \/>\nIn statements earlier in the week, the unions had called on the recently inaugurated board of directors to \u201caddress the issue of proper functioning of the organisation and to act quickly in order to ensure the timely payment of March salaries, as provided for under relevant regulations.\u201d<br \/>\nThe announcement was communicated to the ministries of interior and finance as well as to Parliament so that they could assist in the matter.<br \/>\n\u201c<strong>The tolerance and patience of the staff for the CyBC\u2019s administrative weaknesses has been exhausted<\/strong>,\u201d and these weaknesses are now affecting employees\u2019 labour rights and the organisation\u2019s credibility and standing, the unions said.<br \/>\nThey also charged that CyBC management had tried to absolve itself of responsibility by claiming the delayed payments were not due to internal failures but due to changes enacted by the interior and finance ministries in September and October 2023.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CyBC employees are going on strike due to delayed payment of salaries for over a month, caused by late submission of the national broadcaster&#8217;s budget to Parliament.
