Disy on Friday blasted its former vice chairman Marios Pelekanos<\/strong> after he defected from the party to appear on Elam\u2019s list for June\u2019s European elections.<\/p>\n

They said, \u201cuntil yesterday, Marios Pelekanos was opposed to Elam in the media. We regret that today he has decided for his own personal reasons to disappoint those who trusted him.\u201dThey also criticised Elam\u2019s part in the move, describing it as \u201ccheap tactics to temporarily capture votes<\/strong>\u201d, and said the move will \u201cactually strengthen Akel\u201d.They added, \u201cwith Elam, as with Akel, we are separated by unbridgeable political and ideological differences.\u201dDisy leader Annita Demetriou also spoke on the matter, saying Disy\u2019s membership \u201ctaught us to see the party as a vehicle through which we give back, not a vehicle for satisfying personal ambitions.\u201d\u201cWe must follow their example; to use Disy to give, not to take,\u201d she added.She added that those who \u201cunderestimate the intelligence, betray the trust, and exploit the tolerance<\/strong>\u201d of party members \u201care making a fatal mistake\u201d.\u201cDisy will always be against the anti-European populism of the extremes, and on June 9, with our ideas and our positions, we will emerge victorious and stronger,\u201d she said.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
