{"id":4713,"date":"2024-03-19T18:02:48","date_gmt":"2024-03-19T16:02:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=4713"},"modified":"2024-03-19T18:02:48","modified_gmt":"2024-03-19T16:02:48","slug":"minister-to-deal-aggressively-with-illegal-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=4713","title":{"rendered":"Minister to deal , \u2018aggressively\u2019 with illegal work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/minister-to-deal-aggressively-with-illegal-work.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><strong>The issue of people working illegally<\/strong> <strong>in Cyprus will be dealt with \u201caggressively\u201d, <\/strong>Labour Minister Yiannis Panayiotou said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Panayiotou was evaluating his first year in the post and looking ahead to his second, and said he plans to \u201cstrengthen the institutional framework\u201d regarding inspections of workplaces to uncover cases of illegal employment.This will entail an increase in the frequency of scheduled inspections, as well as <strong>an \u201celectronic census\u201d of all employees and self-employed people<\/strong>, with the aim of increasing the government\u2019s oversight of Cyprus\u2019 labour market.In addition, he said, the government will clamp down heavier on people falsely declaring themselves as self-employed, to ensure people are \u201ccorrectly categorised\u201d for social insurance purposes.Other policy areas mentioned by Panayiotou in his plans for the coming year include better regulation of the \u201cterms and conditions of work\u201d, <strong>including a better framework to deal with bullying and harassment<\/strong>.Additionally, he said, he plans to harmonise Cyprus\u2019 legislation with European Union directives regarding minimum wages, and to make provisions for \u201cupgrading the social dialogue for a better regulation of labour relations.\u201dHe also said the government plans to support working parents, firstly by adding to state benefits for working and self-employed parents, and by paying maternity pay on time.At the same time, he spoke of increasing the employment rate of local workers and carrying out a \u201ctargeted campaign\u201d to attract workers from other EU and European Economic Area countries to work in Cyprus.This, he said, will allow for \u201ca more flexible staffing\u201d of Cyprus\u2019 labour market.In addition to this, he said, the government plans to sign <strong>bilateral agreements with EU candidate countries and other third countries<\/strong> \u201cfor the utilisation of medium and low-skilled workers.\u201dLooking back on his first year in office, he extolled the virtues of increasing the cost-of-living allowance (CoLA) paid to two thirds, which he said has benefited a total of 180,000 workers across the island.In addition, he said the raising of the minimum wage to \u20ac1,000 per month has left 25,000 people better off.
