Turkish Cypriot Leader Ersin Tatar on Thursday made another intervention on the matter of the \u201cfake diploma scandal\u201d<\/strong> which has engulfed the north\u2019s higher education sector.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the occasion of \u201cMedicine Day\u201d, which is celebrated every March 14 in Turkey and the north, he said there has been criticism that there are \u201ctoo many medical and dental schools in this country compared to its population.\u201dHe added that the north\u2019s higher education accreditation authority (Yodak) \u201cmay be negligent or wrong on some matters<\/strong>. I also think we should ask why there are so many medical schools.\u201dTatar had on Wednesday called for Yodak chairman Turgay Avci to resign, with Avci currently on bail accused of having taken bribes while the now-infamous Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University (KSTU)\u2019s medicine school was applying for Yodak accreditation.The north\u2019s \u2018prime minister\u2019 Unal Ustel also spoke on the matter on Thursday, saying the \u2018government\u2019 has been \u201cfollowing developments closely from the very first moment and making every effort to clarify the issue and to ensure our higher education sector suffers a minimal negative impact<\/strong>.\u201dHe said the \u2018government\u2019 \u201cdid not remain indifferent\u201d to the ongoing crisis and \u201ctook all the necessary measures within the framework of the rule of law.\u201dHe added that once criminal proceedings have made their way through the courts, a disciplinary investigation will be initiated against those found guilty.\u201cNo one can have the slightest doubt about this. We know that justice delayed is justice denied<\/strong>,\u201d he said.He added, \u201cour country\u2019s reputation and unity is our highest priority,\u201d and said people can be \u201creassured that we will follow this issue and provide the full support necessary for its conclusion as soon as possible.\u201d\u201cAny individual or institution which turns away from its responsibilities will find itself stood against our society\u2019s common will,\u201d he said.He added, \u201cwith the support we receive from our people, our country will overcome this and move forward stronger<\/strong>.\u201dFollow the
