Preventing fatal and serious road accidents and raising seat belt awareness, including the back seats, as well as children\u2019s safety chairs, will be on the frontline of police goals as they launch a weeklong campaign, with increased patrols and checks on highways and urban main roads starting tomorrow and lasting through to Sunday March 17h, the culmination of carnival events, with the Grand Parade being held in Limassol.
\nThe campaign will be held simultaneously at a European wide level, in the framework of the Cyprus authorities cooperation with the European Police Traffic Network ROADPOL.
\nWearing your seat belt and having a secure child seat in the car, remains the most effective safety characteristic, with 2020-2022 data showing that almost six out of ten road accident victims, including drivers and passengers, were not wearing a seat belt.
