The importance and effectiveness of the photo-marking system was pointed out by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeadis, who chaired the session of the Road Safety Council on Thursday, in the presence of the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Marios Hartsiotis, Police officers and others competent Services.<\/p>\n
As stated in an announcement by the Ministry of Transport, Mr. Vafeadis referred to the importance of the photo-marking system, whose sole purpose is to contribute to the improvement of road safety, and especially to the reduction of fatal road collisions.<\/p>\n
In addition, the Road Safety Board was told that at junctions where fixed cameras had been installed, an average of 200 complaints were recorded per day in the last quarter of 2022, compared to 800 recorded in the first months of the same year. An extensive discussion followed in relation to the operational problems that have arisen with the implementation of the photo-marking system and both the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works and the Minister of Justice and Public Order pointed out the need for better public information. It was decided to immediately promote information about the operating parameters of the system, while at the same time measures will be taken to improve the markings at the junctions where this system has been installed.<\/p>\n
The practical application of the Legislation for Personal Mobility Devices (e-scooters) and the issues arising from the operation of companies renting and operating these devices were also discussed. The need for substantial supervision of the licenses of the companies granted by the Municipalities, as well as the more general policing of the use, was emphasized.<\/p>\n
The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works highlighted the need to expand the 30 MPH Speed Limit Zones. to encourage the safe use of Personal Mobility Devices and in this direction will undertake specific initiatives to implement relevant applications. Additionally, the need for amendments to the relevant legislative framework will be assessed in cooperation with the Union of Municipalities.<\/p>\n
