EAC will not stick to its 2023 request for 25% increases in its tariffs – which had been rejected by CERA with the Authority taking the rejection to court. The prospect of a double hike in EAC tariffs had alarmed households and businesses, with the government on Tuesday leaving open the possibility of extending existing support measures.
A government source told "P" that the Minister of Commerce raised the issue of withdrawing the case of EAC against CERA in the Administrative Court, as well as avoiding this year's recovery of expenses so that there would be no increases in electricity.
