Paris is one of nine European cities that have applied to host the European Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Authority. The other eight are Brussels, Frankfurt, Dublin, Madrid, Rome, Riga, Vilnius and Vienna.<\/p>\n
The French delegation, led by the Minister of Economy Bruno Le Maire, will argue this evening before the European Parliament in favor of the French candidacy, is expected to show, according to French diplomatic sources, that the French standards in the matter of dealing with money laundering it is among the highest in the world. Also, the possibility of synergies between the European Authority and other similar international organizations based in Paris, such as the Authorities for Financial Markets and Banks, the OECD, etc.<\/p>\n
The French side is also expected to highlight that the number of EU officials living and working in France is relatively limited (1,300), compared to 37,000 in Belgium, 5,400 in Germany and 2,100 in Spain. According to existing estimates, the European Anti-Money Laundering Authority will initially employ 250 employees.<\/p>\n
