{"id":14844,"date":"2024-06-21T15:00:08","date_gmt":"2024-06-21T12:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=14844"},"modified":"2024-06-21T15:00:08","modified_gmt":"2024-06-21T12:00:08","slug":"cclei-marginally-positive-in-may","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=14844","title":{"rendered":"CCLEI , \u2018marginally positive\u2019 in May"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A leading indicator, used to predict the future direction of economic movements in Cyprus, turned marginally positive in May, halting the negative year-on-year growth of the index observed in the past three months.<\/p>\n<p>The Cyprus Composite Leading Economic Index (CCLEI), estimated by the Economics Research Centre (CypERC) of the University of Cyprus, recorded a year-over-year increase of 0.1% in May, following the annual decreases of 0.2%, 0.4% and 0.4% in April, March and February, respectively, according to recent and revised data.<\/p>\n<p>The positive estimate of the CCLEI in May is mainly due to the year-over-year growth of several domestic variables.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, tourist arrivals in Cyprus, credit card transactions, retail sales volume, and the temperature-adjusted electricity production volume \u2013 contributed to the growth of the CCLEI in May.<\/p>\n<p>The preservation of the Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) in May at the same level as in May last year had a neutral effect on the change in the CCLEI.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, the negative growth of the European ESI, combined with the y-o-y increase in the benchmark Brent crude oil price and the decline in the year-over-year growth rate of property sales contracts, restrained the further rise of the CCLEI in May.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_83142\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-83142\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-83142\" src=\"https:\/\/www.financialmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/UCy-CCLEI_06_2024_en.jpg\" alt width=\"794\" height=\"401\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-83142\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Economic Research Centre (ERC) \u2013 Department of Economics, University of Cyprus (UCY)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A leading indicator, used to predict the future direction of economic movements in Cyprus, turned marginally positive in May, halting the negative year-on-year growth of the index observed in the past three months.
