Residents of mountain communities have voiced distress over the retirement of the sole remaining paediatrician at Troodos Hospital, leaving around 300 children in the area without medical care for those specialities.
\nIn a letter to the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO) on Monday, the residents said they were informed in March that one of the two paediatricians at the hospital was retiring, yet no steps were taken to replace them before the second one also retired at the end of May.
\n\u201cWe are puzzled by the delay, as we believe that you should have immediately proceeded with the announcement of one of the two positions,\u201d the letter stated.
\n\u201cUnfortunately, at this moment, Troodos Hospital is left without a paediatrician, leaving our approximately 300 children without medical coverage.\u201d
\nThe residents warned they may have to take \u201cmore drastic measures\u201d if swift action is not taken by SHSO to fill the vacant position.
