{"id":13054,"date":"2024-05-24T20:01:15","date_gmt":"2024-05-24T17:01:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=13054"},"modified":"2024-05-24T20:01:15","modified_gmt":"2024-05-24T17:01:15","slug":"cyprus-sees-slight-increase-in-non-performing-loans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=13054","title":{"rendered":"Cyprus sees slight increase in non-performing loans"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/cyprus-sees-slight-increase-in-non-performing-loans.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>There was a slight increase in the absolute numbers of non-performing loans (NPLs) in Cyprus<\/strong> in January of this year, with the <strong>ratio of NPLs to total loans remaining stable at 7.9 per cent.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to a report released on Friday by the <strong>Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC)<\/strong>, the balance of NPLs, based on the European Banking Authority\u2019s guidelines,<strong> rose to \u20ac1.9 billion,<\/strong> marking an increase of \u20ac7 million from the previous month. <\/p>\n<p>The balance of loans overdue by more than 90 days reached \u20ac1.58 billion, reflecting an increase of \u20ac11 million compared to December 2023, with the percentage holding steady at 6.2 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Year-on-year, there was a reduction in NPLs, which decreased by \u20ac420 million compared to January 2023. <\/p>\n<p>Loans overdue by more than 90 days also saw a significant reduction, down by \u20ac360 million over the same period.<\/p>\n<p>The<strong> total amount of loans in January 2024 stood at \u20ac24.02 billion<\/strong>, slightly down from \u20ac24.07 billion in the previous month.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the percentage of accumulated provisions against NPLs increased to 50.1 per cent from 49.5 per cent in the previous month.<\/p>\n<p>Revised loans amounted to \u20ac1.55 billion in January, down from \u20ac1.62 billion in December 2023, with \u20ac850 million of these still classified as NPLs.<\/p>\n<p>The<strong> slight rise in NPLs is attributed to an increase in non-performing business loans<\/strong>, which reached \u20ac780 million in January, with \u20ac720 million of these from small and medium-sized enterprises. <\/p>\n<p>This is up from \u20ac770 million in December 2023. In contrast, household NPLs remained essentially unchanged at \u20ac1.07 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The coverage ratio for corporate NPLs in January was 66.3 per cent, while the coverage ratio for household
